Here at Total Accounts we are always looking to help our small business friends by sharing valuable and helpful information and tools.

With that in mind, the Australian Government has a tailored website just for small businesses, with loads of fabulous information about “grants, services and support from across government to help your business succeed”.

As a small business owner it’s important you look to comply with workplace laws, to protect your business in the long term and make your employee’s conditions of work and pay clear from the start.

Tailored to suit your business needs the Business.gov.au has created an Employment Contract Tool for employee’s under the national industrial relations system, and covers full-time, part-time and casual employees who are covered by an award.

This tool helps small business employers to make a basic employment contract that complies with workplace laws. It takes you through several steps and helps a business with everything that should form an employment contract.

“In the tool you’ll find:

  • conditions that you must provide to your employee
  • optional clauses to help set expectations and protect your business”

It covers a range of things starting with position description, award, workplace clauses, employment type and a list of other important information to consider from work type, leave, obligations, disputes, notice and misconduct.  It’s definitely worth a look.
